Two Hands Up!

There’s always a first time for everything and what a knockout way to enjoy your first Ethiopian experience!! No utensils – just your hands and soft, fluffy (almost foamy) textured “bread,” shaped like a tortilla, to grab the main dishes. As the pictures reveal, each person can order an individual main dish e.g. lamb, beef, chicken, vegetarian, etc. but the food comes in a large platter with the “bread” as the bottom layer and each dish separated into small heaps, to be shared between 4-5 people. The bread, therefore, soaks up all the sauces and flavor of the dishes you order. Extra bread accompanies the meal. It’s such a fun way to eat for all ages and you can have even more fun trying to feed each other, as tradition recommends. Definitely a gem, this Ethiopian Diamond!

Lamb with the accompanying sauces and veggies was scrumptious! But do watch out for some pieces of bone – they can be easily confused as being a chunk of meat!

delicious!

what a fabulous place to dine if you’re in a large party. the food here is well prepared, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. the ambience as well is enjoyable (w/live music on saturdays as we discovered), and although casual—quite distinct w/large impressive ethiopian paintings along the walls. everyone shares their dish w/in the party so definitely the perfect place to go with large crowds. you also get to eat w/your hands, making for an even more fun time. service is down-to-earth and very friendly.

i was surprised by how fresh the tilapia actually tasted, and also by how much came in the dish. the colorful cooked veggies were a nice addition too.

the meat is spicy for sure (but probably not so for those fire eaters out there). the cheese and green collards come on the side, and combining the three in different amounts was fun to play around with.

packed w/minced spinach, these sambusas are a lot like flatter, smaller samosas w/o the spicy kick. spinach flavor is strong. quite good.

The food here is amazing, as is the decor. A family owned restaurant with commissioned painting of Adis Ababa and villages in Ethiopia. If you’re in the mood for some excellent and authentic Ethiopian food, this is the place to go. Delicious lamb, chicken, beef, and veggie dishes to please any appetite.
