Nice decor and friendly wait staff. Guu may have better food but Hapa has a great overall experience.

I kind of wrote off Hapa a few years ago when it first opened, as it felt like a trying-too-hard-to-be-a-high-end-version-of-Guu. May be I ordered the wrong thing. Very much pleasantly surprised tonight – everything was good. Sashimi was fresh, everything was tasty and just enough. I like it.

I’m not a fan of cheese but their cheese tofu is THE best I’ve ever had. Fancy interior decor and prompt service. The menu was better when it was bigger. Salmon catch was super fresh; Yaki noodles were seasoned well although tea prices seem a tad steep.

I guess this is what they call “resto lounge”? The decor and waitresses are pleasing to the eye, and the food isn’t bad either. This combination tends to attract a fair share of the flashy hoodlum crowd, something I like to avoid. Purely comparing the food, I feel that Guu and select others have a better offering.

Don't Miss This

I would consider this one of the if not the best izakaya’s in Vancouver. On Robson Street but off the main strip, with little signage, it must be good to be always so busy.
