A uniquely delicious treat

Doughboys is one of those L.A. places that always has a line. Unlike many of the others, everyone gets in, the staff is non-pretentious, and this one is well worth the wait.

Inside is a drab colored but still-somehow-cozy place staffed by friendly bohemians. The booths are large and comfortable. The coffee is good, and it’s a good idea to order some right away ‘cause it’s definitely going to take you some time to get through their menu.

The menu at Doughboys consists of an eclectic assortment of modern interpretations of the comfort foods enjoyed by the soldiers during World War I. Whoever though this stuff up has wonderful taste, and perhaps a wonderful stash too.

You like pancakes? You came to the right place! Almond Peach? Banana-Pecan Butterscotch? Pineapple-Coconut Macadamia nut? Or maybe just chocolate pancakes made with both dark and white chocolate? And that’s just the start!

Prefer some meat in your breakie? How about the southern corn pudding special which consists of creamy corn pudding covereed in melted cheese, smoked port hash grilled with potatoes and onions, and covered with a pair of fried eggs.

Maybe you’re here for lunch? The monster is a pizza-sized focaccia covered in sliced beef with fried onions and mushrooms, covered in emmenthaler cheese served with a horseradish sauce. It definitely violates my second rule of eating: Never attempt to eat anything larger than your head. You’ll definitely be tempted to try though!

For the salad-inclined, they’ve got creative veggie concoctions that would spin a rabbit on it’s ears. How about their Medditerraneo: mixed greens, grilled eggplant, zucchini, onions and peppers with sliced buffalo mozzarella, a roma tomato, and pesto sauce? Yum! Even die-hard carnivores like me get hungry thinking about dishes like this.

I’ve barely scratched the surface on their ever-tempting, super-creative, always delicious menu. I’ve eaten there many times, and have never been disappointed or walked away even slighly hungry. Check it out, you’ll love it!

BTW…don’t forget to have the red-velvet cake for dessert…it’s unbelieveable!

A large pizza-sized flat focaccia covered in sliced beef, grilled onions with mushrooms, and smothered in melted emmenthaler cheese. Served with a horseradish sauce on the side. It’s incredible. You’ll dream about it at night…

great lunch

i come here for lunch sometimes with coworkers. i love sitting outside on the sidewalk – great for people watching. soups and salads are good, sandwiches are great. the bread is to die for! – but dont come here if you are watching your carbs!

my favorite sandwich is called Mimi’s Favorite. it is very veggie friendly.. loaded with tomato, cucumber, green onion, artichoke, shredded radicchio, avocado, sesame & sunflower seeds, and grated swiss cheese stuffed inside a hollowed out baguette – super good.. and it doesnt fill you up as much as you think it would because they take out all the good inside bread and fill it with this salad concotion. excellent!

Doughboys is amazing. I actually go to the new one on Highland because it’s close to my house & parking is easier. Anyway, almost everything is fantastic. The salads are all good & the pancake dishes are as well. Oh, and the soups! And the cakes, especially hummingbird & red velvet cake. I love it all…

Parking is a mess here. I swear, I circled around for so long and they don’t start valeting til 5 PM. That’s my excuse for the 3 stars.

Other than that, their french onion soup is pretty damn good. So is their french dip and salads. Everything is pretty healthy here, but good.

doughboys for dough-girl!

i just heart this place! i think i ate here everyday for a whole week…

blueberry flaxseed pancakes, porridge, toad in a hole, the fat boy, the monster!!! the soups, and of course their desserts, although i didn’t like their red-velvet cake as much as everyone else seems to.

cross the street to Toast for salads, & overall healthier alternative to this treat.
