i love my nieghborhood breakfast joint!
Undoubtedly the best breakfast place in the bay. The omelettes are fluffy. The pancakes are moist and cooked to perfection.
Watch out, the lines get long.
Not to fear. They’ve done so well that a new one is now on 15662 Los Gatos Blvd (where the Iron Skillet used to be). The line is just as long, but at least there are two joints now!

Strawberry Shortcake
UNBELIEVABLE. So moist and perfect!!! I always thought of the strawberry shortcake as a dry cake. Not so here. The shortcake is very spongy, and the whipped cream on the strawberries….wow. Plus, it’s complimentary with your meal. Ask for it as your side bakery item.

Best breakfast in the area
Have to agree with shaomai…this place is awesome.
The decor itself isn’t much to write about…sort of like a diner, but kind of cramped. They have a nice outdoor area, but it is a bit cramped as well. Overall, not much to say about the atmosphere, but it isn’t so bad that it hurts in any way, so who cares?
Service: solid service, about what you’d expect for a cheap diner place. No complaints.
Now, the food. Almost everything I’ve had here has been excellent. I’m big on breakfast foods and this place has great waffles, awesome pancakes and is just really good all the way around at any breakfast item. Their potatos are lighter than the usual super-oily hash browns you get at most places…and you get a lot of it too.
But, as good as those are, it’s the amazing souffle omelettes (yes, the crab one is excellent, but so are many others) that are better than any other omelette you’ve ever had. Light, flavorful, yet huge and filling…the perfect omelette.
And, as has been mentioned, their bakery items are all AWESOME too. The raspberry coffee cake is popular and really good, as is the strawberry shortcake. However, I was told to get the carrot walnut bread, which didn’t sound so hot…I reluctantly ordered it, expecting to be disappointed and wishing I got something else. I was wrong…wow, the carrot walnut bread is simply incredible!
There’s basically nothing you can complain about at this place other than the wait and the slightly cramped atmosphere. The best breakfast place in the area for sure.

Great breakfasts make you fullllll
Los Gatos Cafe may not look like much, but who cares about the atmosphere when the food is so good!
For me, their signature dishes are their souffle omelettes—whipped eggs make their souffles so light and so fluffy! There are so many omelette varieties that everyone should be able to find something they like (try the crab and avocado omelette… it’s surpisingly good). I would say this is a great light meal, except that the omelettes are HUMUNGOUS… not to mention the half plate of potatoes that will come with them. and did i mention the accompanying bakery item? believe me, you will not leave here hungry.
their sweeter breakfasts are also great as well. the waffles themselves are nicely crispy and i like these best with their fresh strawberries (seasonal). their french toasts are really thick (and there’s a lot of it), but i prefer their apricot french toast. It’s actually made with apricot bread, so the fruit is baked into the bread, not just spread across the top. I can never finish this dish, both because it is huge and because it gets a little too sweet for after eating so much.
I also love that they offer several types of benedicts, not just your typical eggs benedicts. I like the California Benedict, which comes with avocado. The coffee cake bakery item is good as well (as well as being very large).
The only thing I find somewhat disappointing at the Los Gatos Cafe is their side order of bacon… the bacon pieces are large and thick, but just not crispy enough.
But the best part of Los Gatos Cafe… the STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKES! Unfortunately for me, these are seasonal items or else i’d want them year round. They taste incredibly light, and with the fresh strawberries, they are delicious – I never feel guilty that I am eating cake for breakfast when I eat one of these. :) And they count as a bakery item, so if you order an omelette you can get one of these instead of a boring piece of toast. how’s that for a deal? (ask for it, the waitresses sometimes forget to tell you that it is an option).

Strawberry Shortcake
light and fluffy and fresh strawberries… soooo yummy!
-
Crab and avocado omelette
I was scared of crab for breakfast, but it’s kind of like eating a california roll wrapped in egg instead of seaweed. in a good way. Comes with a huge plate of potatoes and a bakery item (get the shortcake!)

Apricot French Toast
Really good, but there’s soo much to eat! The slices are nice and thick, and the apricots add a nice tart sweetness.
