Come here for the omakase or order sushi from the “daily specials” white board. They serve fish that you can’t usually find elsewhere~ butterfish, japanese special unagi (grilled), fresh bonito, arctic charr, belt fish, and others, depending on the season. The daily specials are presented with sauces made in-house… the lemon-y sauce is amazing. Sam’s niece is the dessert chef and she is quite talented. Order the almond pudding (creamy and refreshing with hint of lychee flavor), the flan (perfect texture and sweetness), or the daily special!
great fresh sushi
most of the sushi at sushi sam’s comes off the daily specials menu. which means every day you’re in for a surprise :) their fish is very fresh and the preparation is quite creative. not content with just sashimi over rice, the chefs often add slight garnishes and seasonings to the fish (but never so much as to overpower the fish).
-
yellow jack nigiri
perfectly firm texture and yet it melted in your mouth.
-
ho toro nigiri
the tuna was great and paired up with a nice garnish (don’t remember what it was now), but for me it was actually too fatty. many of my friends were quite happy with it though.
-
special unagi nigiri
the unagi was of good quality. however, it was slightly overcooked and so didn’t have as much flavor as i’m used to.
-
special butterfish nigiri
i’ve never tried butterfish before, so i didn’t have much to compare against. the flavor was very unique though and quite good. while not nearly as fatty as the ho toro, it definitely feels very soft and buttery.
