New restaurant has its ups (food) and downs (spotty service)
Went there this past weekend as it was a new spot that was opened by the folks who own Koryo and Drunken Fish. As a hearty proponent of Koryo, I thought I’d give Miyozen a try.
They have a sizable sushi conveyor belt that has some innovative type of rolls going by you. Definitely not your typical sushi boat fare. The portion sizes were humongous and while it may just be the fact that the place has recently opened so they’re trying to impress, but I kind of doubt it. The quality of the fish was very fresh.
The area for improvement lies strictly in the service. It’s not that the service was bad, but it was just inexperienced. When the chef’s rolls on my sushi boat came around, the server didn’t explain what was what, so I had to figure them out on my own. I’m all for adventure but it’d be nice to get a heads-up about the super-spicy tuna tartare lying on top of a roll. Also, food seemed to take quite a while to show up but when it did, the quality made up for it.
Give it a couple weeks to iron out the kinks and this place will be an Emeryville keeper for sure!
