koreanified sushi

sushi badaya is off the always busy Central ave. on 1st St., so it’s easy to miss. (i think they would probably get a lot more business if they were in ahigher foot-traffic location, but what can ya’ do…)

in any case, as finding a reasonable sushi joint in this area was a challenge for someone like me living in north chicago, i think sushi badaya is a good option for local residents.

this establishment is run by koreans, so big suprise, the rolls have a korean twist to them. not quite like the rolls i’m used to at other japanese restaurants, but that’s ok, the rolls are still good. not spectacular, but still good.

i really loved the interior design of the restaurant though. dark reds and golds w/beautiful artwork along the walls. it created a very soothing ambience.

service was excellent – friendly and attentive. we even got some free appetizers & pens!

What I ate:
  • *****

you really can’t mess this one up. a good size bowl, too. some tofu, seaweed strips…warmed me right up.

  • ***

presented in a narrow, oblong dish – that was kinda neat. the fish was covered in some white sauce (mayo?), which i didn’t really care for. not a bad choice overall.

  • *****

how to describe this…the consistency of custard, but the flavor of sweetend boiled eggs. quite delicious! don’t burn your tongue – it comes out piping hot!

Extras:

best sushi I ever tasted

I sat at the sushi bar in front of head chef – he served us from appetizer to dessert with beutiful presentation and unforgettable flavors. some of his dishes were not even in the menu – and all of them were absolutely delicious and their seafood was so fresh. my day felt so contented and special from the treat.

What I ate:

white draron with crab meat/red dragon with spicy tuna/crunch dragon with tempura— my favorite was white
