Diablo Burger is a burger joint on a mission: To serve gourmet burgers made of local & regionally produced sustainable ingredients. That’s a great cause, and it helps that the burgers. are. awesome.
They’re tucked into a tiny space — but a vibrantly-painted one — on the northwest corner of Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff. The small space mirrors the ethos of using small producers; this isn’t a honkin’ chain burger joint. Amble your way up to the counter and, while you order, scope out a seat at the small bar or one of the handful of narrow tables, and be prepared to sit communally.
They make a great salad, packed with greens, slices of beet, and big chunks of blue cheese. (Note the biodegradable “corn-ware” for the salad.) And we saw plenty of people order milkshakes and other goodies. They looked great. But seriously, you’re here for burgers.
We had the Blake — a burger with spicy mayo and green chiles. (Check the menu for the whole range of combinations, and don’t forget to check the specials.) It was cooked perfectly, and served with a pile of thin, savory herbed fries. Washed it down with a good beer (the Scrimshaw) and a glass of wine, and all was good.
Diablo is a great spot to grab a bite, meet some people, and have a super burger.
