What is the hype?

This restaurant is totally overrated. Why do Portsmouth locals always seem to recommend this place to tourists? My guess is to keep the real Portsmouth treasures for ourselves. The food is overpriced and unoriginal. There are no sustainable seafood options (see the Monterey Bay seafood watch card). This is a bit short-sighted to me for a seafood restaurant. The service and decor are nothing special.

What's all the fuss about?

Jumpin Jay’s is overrated. If you ask almost any local what restaurants they recommend, Jay’s is almost always on the list, but I can’t understand why. The food is okay, but not spectacular; ambiance is okay, but nothing special; service is okay, but nothing extraordinary. There are few if any sustainable seafood options (an important thing to consider). But if you want to go out for a nice seafood dinner, your options in this coastal community are, ironically, somewhat limited. So Jumpin Jay’s finds its way to the top of peoples’ lists by default.
