We had a fantastic meal here – very classic French. They also have a nice selection of wines by the glass including several from the Alsace region.
The meal began with a nice variety of bread and an amuse of quiche from the chef. For my first coure, I had the bouillabaisse which was fantastic. The red sauce had just the right amount of kick, the assortment of fish was just right (scallop, muscle, lobster, shrimp and white fish) and the saffron offered a nice extra bit of flavor. The toasted bread was perfect for soaking up the sauce.
The next course was the house salad which exceeded my expectations. It had a nice vinagerette dressing and a “very” garlicky crouton (which they warn you about!). To clear my palate, some mango sorbet with a small bit of crystallized violet.
For the entree, how could I say no to duck a l’orange prepared with Grand Marnier? The meat was tender and cooked just right. While I wish the skin were crispier it was nicely done. The portion of wild rice was nicely accented with a sweet chestnut. The accompanying vegetables and additional side of root vegetable mash balanced out the meal quite nicely.
At last, my long awated Grand Marnier Souffle for dessert. Is there any dessert better than that?? It was prepared in the classic way with a lovely creamy sauce on the side. Our coffees came with a cookie and truffle.
Throughout the meal our service was great. The waitress did not hover but kept the meal moving at a good pace. Plates were cleared in a timely manner, but not so that we felt we were being rushed, even though we were out in just over 2 hours.
It should also be noted that the menu is priced off of your entree – appetizer, salad, sorbet, entree and dessert are all included. There are supplements in each area so be aware as that can start to ratchet the price up more.
It is a cozy atmosphere and while there were some families with children, this would not be the place for one using a highchair. (Note that we are the type of parents who bring our son almost everywhere!) I hear that when the weather is nice there is a nice garden in which to sip cocktails as well.
While eating here on a regular basis may be a bit excessive, it is lovely for a classic French meal.
