A Hidden Treat in East Sacramento

It’s not that hard to find this restaurant if you know where to look. It’s tucked into a corner of Camellia Shopping Center, next to that East Sacramento landmark, Corti Brothers Market.

Go around the corner from Rite Aid, past the UPS store and the Supercuts. Keep going until you think you’re entering an alley by the nail salon with the Buddah in the window.

Enter El Amigo and pass the gum machines. You are greeted by a friendly and courteous employee.

Most of the time we have visited here, there have been few other customers. Maybe that’s because Tuesday afternoon is the only time John and I are able to go out together. We like to think that this is our own private restaurant.

I like Mexican food, but I can’t handle food that is too spicy. John likes things a little more spicy. I like the fact that this restaurant will cater to both of us.

The booth was a little akward. My feet didn’t reach the floor. The table seemed lower than natural and a bit further away. Maybe I need to bring a pillow to put behind my back.

It’s possible that this place seems special to me because it’s a place where I go with my sweetheart. We don’t get enough time together.

Dishes I tried:

Two Taco Combo

Two crispy yummy tacos arrived at my table on a piping hot plate with a warning not to burn myself. I am weird. I don’t like cheese. The staff of El Amigo was glad to cater to my idiosyncrasies. The Spanish rice was delicious. Sometimes restaurants make it too spicy. (It actually hurts my mouth!) But El Amigo had the best rice! And the refried beans were good, too. I’ll admit I didn’t have the courage to ask if they were the vegetarian kind or the kind with lard.

I am a caregiver for my elderly disabled parents 24/7 and this was a rare treat to go out to eat with my sweetheart.

Mexican food that you put in your mouth and eat.

Good food, good times, good haircut. Try the chicken in tomato sauce. Dilicioso. I made up the spelling on that word. Next to Great Clips tucked away.
