This was my first time at E&C and probably the last. Halfway through my meal of Steak and Ale Pie, I took a bite of mashed potato and felt a crunch… and behold, a piece of GLASS! I spit it out, cleaned it up and showed it to my friends who were concerned. At my friend’s suggestion, we actually “tested” it to see if it really was glass by dropping it on the table to hear what kind of sound it made. Yeah, sounds silly but it was indeed a piece of glass – sound and all.
Waitress and manager came in succession. Waitress apologized numerous times and when I mentioned that I felt a crunch, she asked wondrously, “That was in your mouth?” Yes, of course, what else do you do with mashed potatoes? Apparently, something different at E&C. (Although none of this was her fault – I think she was as shocked as we were). Manager came by, apologized, but left us confused by repeating “It’s not fun” a couple times. “It’s not fun”? What does that mean exactly? Was that empathy? New form of apology? I’m still not sure. Then, he followed it up with “this is so surprising because we don’t normally use glass…” Um… what are those transparent cylindrical containers that had our drinks in made of exactly? Everything’s a mystery at this place…
The restaurant did cover for my meal, but my friends stopped eating their meals too at this point. I think we were all a little afraid about the possibility of another surprise. Maybe an isolated incident, but I won’t be taking my chances. I had been rather excited to try this place, but no, it was not fun indeed.

08/12/2007Yikes! That’s really scary. It’s a good thing you chew before you swallow or you might have had more serious problems! I almost went to E&C to eat once but the prices looked higher than I wanted to pay for bar-ish food – I guess it’s b/c they include glass in their food :)
