hands down, the best dessert place I’ve ever found. It’s not that other restaurants don’t have equally great desserts, but there just aren’t too many places around that you can go to just for dessert. This is one of them, and while the prices are a bit on the high side, if you’re a dessert lover, it’s SO worth it.
The absolute best thing at Extraordinary Desserts are the Napoleans. These aren’t regular menu items, but they will almost always have them on the weekends. They are layers of flaky phyllo dough with fruit (the type of fruit will vary according to their specials) and whipped cream, with swirls of raspberry and apricot sauce on the plate. Their specials will often include a scoop of white chocolate ice cream on the side.
Another favorite off the regular menu is the Blood Orange Ricotta Torte. It’s fruity and light, but creamy. Their cakes are always very, very moist. Expect to pay about $6-7 for a slice of cake, or about $8 for one of the nightly specials (usually includes a scoop of ice cream or gelato).
Any of the chocolate cakes are amazing for chocolate lovers, but be forewarned — they are very, very rich.
The newer location on union street is really big and has a great variety of desserts. They also serve breakfast and some light foods. The decor is very modern, and it’s a great place to go with friends. I’ve also never had a problem with parking at this downtown location.
The original location is the one in Hillcrest, but while that one is more cozy and romantic, it’s often crowded and they can run out of things if you go too late on a weekend.
