Felix's
Cuban college food. sit in downtown orange inside or outside while being taken back to a very continental cuban cafe, you can just feel the 70’s air, i don’t know what that means but you can feel it, its been there for a long time. the food: empinadas, steak, dessert. thats what you need to get. the food is cheap and good. if you havent been here yet you own it to the vast homogenous culture that orange county. some of the entres are hit or miss, so order the hits.
Dishes I tried:
Palomilla Steak
A tender and delicious top round steak
cooked on the grill and topped with onions. one of two things you order for dinner.
Steak a la Cubana
A New York filet marinated Cuban style.
Garnished with green onions, garlic and red pimiento. Served with rice, black beans and maduros. if its your first time order this, that way you arent dissapointed with something else that might be bad.
Tres Leches Cake
A very moist/wet white cake with a nice frosting that doesn’t stink.

Delicious!
I scheduled a Meetup.com event here for a group of 20 people. Although they forgot that we were coming (they have a really unorganized calendar), they had us seated in 5 mins. The service was wonderful & super quick. The waitresses didn’t mind answering our questions on “what’s that”, etc. I’ll definitely go back again!
Dishes I tried:
Felix Combination
OMG, this was wonderful! All of the meat was cooked perefectly, the spinach was creamy & the maduros (fried plantains) were interesting. This was so good, I may not even want to bother trying anything else!
Rice Pudding
I was expecting a very thick pudding when I ordered this dessert & was suprised to find it was quite thin (almost soupy). That threw me off a bit but once I tasted it, I was in heaven! The cinnamon compliments the pudding wonderfully!

casual, cheap, good breakfast
if you’re looking for a casual morning breakfast, felix is a nice place to consider. it’s right in the heart of old town orange (IN the orange circle). they have a sprawling open sidewalk patio where you can enjoy the orange county weather and cuban flare dishes for a very modest price.
Dishes I tried:
breakfast burrito
it’s got the comforting homemade taste, with latin seasoning, and delicious overall.

08/04/2008I would have never thought of spinach and plantains on one plate together, but it sounds like it absolutely worked. :)
