Are you a top chef?
You’ve probably heard of the Flat Top; you pick out your food to be stir-fried: choose from a base of rice or noodles, then add veggies, marinades, and meat (6 different kinds, by my count). If you’re a vegetarian, everything not veggie is carefully labelled, and they had no less than 3 fake meats last time I went.
you can eat your creation straight-up, as a salad or a soup, wrapped up to make moo shoo, or (most popular, as far as I can tell) with roti bread.
So, by this point, you get it. It’s a concept, and either you’re on board or you’re not. I’m not. When I go to a restaurant, I want my food cooked for me. If I wanted to make my own dishes, I’d stay at home.
I’m sorry, did that sound mean?
Specific problems:
The wait staff can be a little pushy (“would you like one of our lettuce wrap appetizers?”). And even if you and your table make all your meals at the same time, you’re going to get them at all different times. Meals have been known to go missing for 10 minutes at a time. And when some people start getting up to make new meals, it gets hectic. It’s not the place to go for nice conversation.

i am a bad foodie. that dude from hell’s kitchen would eat me for dinner.

Flat Top is much like Mongolian BBQ. You pick out the meats, veggies, and other items you want in your dish and then some guys hovering over a hot grill like witches over a cauldron cook it. They then bring the dish back to your table. It’s fun, doesn’t cost much, and you can’t blame anyone on the food b/c you picked it out.
