Fred’s has a great location, just a few blocks away from Pacific Beach. It has very amusing decorations outside, like an animal statue drinking tequila, wheel covers embedded into the wall, a hammerhead shark with flames on the head above the door, and crazy shaped beer bottles. It would’ve made a good picture, but i didn’t bring my camera.

The food in the restaurant is filling, though I’ve had tastier at more authentic Mexican places. They have gigantic burritos. Fred’s, like many of the nearby restaurants, is a place to go for some food, pool, and most likely, alcohol.

The service, I felt, was very poor. Our waitress was very nice, but she seemed to only appear every like 20+ minutes. Took forever to get guacamole for chips, take our order, and an especially long time to get the bill.

Four stars: food was decent, atmosphere was energetic, service was poor. I still had a good time because of the company, but otherwise I would have been pissed at the waiting.

Although I find the decorations quite hokey, the food is pretty good, and it is large enough to share, making for a pretty inexpensive dinner. Check it out during the week for Happy hour and discounted tacos.
