4.0When asked, “what’s your favorite restaurant?”, I think, that’s just not fair! It depends on what mood I’m in, and what I’m craving. Well If your ever in the mood for a “Real-Home-Cooked-Meal”, Friendly Farms is the place to go. The thing that stands out most about Friendly Farms is they still serve in the traditional “Family Style” way. I guess I’m to young to remember when that was a common thing, but to me its really nice, and restaurant’s should do it more often in my opinion.
The decor isn’t fine dining, in fact, it almost makes you think of a church hall. But once you’ve been seated, and start eating, you won’t even care what the place looks like. My theory on purchasing meals, or anything for that matter is, “you get what you pay for”. You pay cheap, you get a cheap meal. You pay little, you get little. Well Friendly Farms isn’t the cheapest place, but I’ve seen more expensive. But based upon the amount of food you get, and all the sides, you definitely get your money’s worth. There isn’t a bad thing on the menu, with my personal favorite the ham. My husband and father-in-law, are in a continual search for the best crab-cake in MD, and even though they differ, Friendly Farms is both in their top 3.
If you never been to Friendly Farms, let me walk you through. You enter in, and give the cashier your choices for the main courses. Once that’s chosen you pay the cashier, he creates your ticket, and you wait to be seated. So say for example Dad wants the Crab-Cake and Chicken combo, Mom the Ham, and little Timmy wants just Chicken. So than your seated, and your waiter gets your drink order. When she brings back your drinks, she also brings the first wave of your “family style sides”. Its just like eating at home. You get a bowl of beets, coleslaw, hot fresh rolls & sugar biscuits, pickles, apple-butter & peaches. Now you pass around all the sides to each other, and put what you want on your plate, just like you would do at home.
Than you each get a separate plate with your main course. Along with big bowls of green beans, corn, french fries, and refills on anything else. Than always there’s the option of an ice-cream or sorbet.
It’s the best food you will ever eat out, along with a wonderful family atmosphere. The property it self is beautiful, and if the kids don’t see the country much, this is the place to take them.
