The Original
This is THE shrimp truck located in Kahuku, with an additional location in Haleiwa. There are many imitators, but you can’t miss this dilapidated white bus which is covered in graffiti. They serve 3 plate here- Shrimp Scampi, Spicy Shrimp, or Lemon/Butter Shrimp. Seating is picnic style benches. It’s a good idea to bring your own roll of paper towels and a cannister of Wet Ones, you’ll be very greasy. All plates are $13, and they warn that there are no refunds on the hot and spicy, it’s pretty hot.
Dishes I tried:
Shrimp Scampi
This is a plate of a dozen large shrimp, they look like about 16/20 or 21/25 size. They come deveined but not peeled and are marinated in olive oil and tons of garlic before being sauteed and served with 2 scoops of rice. The rice comes with some of the garlic sauce poured on the top. I love to squeeze the lemon wedge over everything, (the rice too) and then topping it with a couple of the soy sauce packets on the side. You can get a side of their hot sauce, I had the hot and spicy plate before, but all you taste is hot. I prefer to control the level of heat by dipping so I can appreciate the flavor. You can get a side of 2 scoops of rice with or without garlic sauce. for $1 as well as a can of soda or Costco bottled water for $1. Better yet, bring your own drink, I forgot to ask if you can BYOB, but it’s a family friendly atmosphere, and some folks might get out of hand if they drink…
