Made my tummy more than full

My follow-up review for this restaurant. Read my previous review for this restaurant here

I just went here again last night. Still good, and it made me eat way too much. I ordered the fried tofu (i.e., agedashi tofu), and it was pretty good. Came nice and hot, although the batter could’ve been better.

My mom’s dish also camed with fried stuffed tofu. I liked the regular agedashi more, but my dad preferred it stuffed.

All in all, it was a fulfilling meal, especially for the price.

Dishes I tried:

Never a bad meal

My wife and I have been going to Gombei in San Jose nearly as long as we’ve been in California (24 years) and it always delivers great tastes. Croquets are outstanding – mashed potatos with curry, bits of meat, maybe a little onion, rolled in panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and deep fried. My wife orders this nearly every time we go. Fried stuffed tofu is amazing – creamy tofu mixed with egg (? I think), onion, bean sprouts, then dipped in flour and sauted. It’s served on a bed of spinach with a sauce over it. GREAT!

I’ve had about everything on the menu but usually go for something on the white board (daily specials). Oh, and don’t forget the soba (buckwheat noodles). These sell out quickly when they’re on the menu. Something wonderful to try.

Dishes I tried:

I love these buckwheat noodles served cold with a dipping sauce, chopped scallions, and wasaba (horseradish). I mix the latter two in the sauce and dip the noodles in it. Very earthy and satisfying taste!
