I shoulda had a sit down lunch here back in its heyday, which wasn’t that long ago, when it was bustling busy and full of Argentinians. But would the food have been any better?
Today, there was hardly anyone there.
Before today, I’ve only had their empanadas and bakery items. Today we ordered from the menu above the counter. I had the chicken milanese salad. My dining friends had a special, what I’ll call the meat-o-rama.
Milanese: big ol piece of dried out chicken milanese. Salad part: a little bit of lettuce, shredded carrots, bad looking cucumbers, not so good looking cherry tomatoes. No dressing, just some lemon wedges. That chicken needed a lot of help and was a little bit better with hot sauce, and lots better with the garlic/parsley/red pepper/olive oil sauce that came with the meat-o-rama.
Meat-o-rama: it came on a table top size elevated grill type thing, and the top tray was filled corner to corner, side to side, with meat. Three different cuts of steak, pork medallions, some kind of small sausage, a large squishy sausage that I’m told tasted like fat. The whole thing did look like a meat eater’s dream. The big side of rice was good.
I also got the chicken empanadas, still good flavors but not very fresh.
The inside dining room leads right to the outdoor patio, it’s all open, so the flies could buzz in, and they did. The fly problem wasn’t nearly as bad as at Comme Ca, though.
Service: friendly but haphazard.
I think I’ll just stick to the empanadas and bakery items. But I think Grand Casino will get squeezed out, just like Pacifico’s. Not that these places are/were great, but it’s still sad.
