The Grill Room is an intimate and elegant experience in fine dining. We had a party of eight. As we were seated our cloth table napkins were replaced with fresh ones placed on our laps. A waiter served those who wished to have port wine, Evian, or Pelligrino. Actually, we must have had at least four servers hovering over us. A separate appetizer plate and fork was placed in front of each guest. Served was a dried apricot topped with seasoned ricotta cheese and a sliver of dried cranberry. The appetizer plates were whisked away and while we waited for our dinner, bread was served. The butter arrived in the shape of standing elephants. Our group had ordered entrees that included chateaubriand, prime filet of beef with the bone, prime filet of beef without the bone, and red snapper. Aside from delicious food, the ambiance was greatly improved by a European concert pianist playing selections from Rachmanifnoff, Vivaldi, and others. I tasted creme brulee for the first time. Hmmn good!!! I particularly liked that we were not rushed to finish our dinner. The overall dining experience was exceptional. If your boyfriend takes you here, he is looking for marriage.

Grill Room is a lovely restaurant along the Las Olas strip tucked into the Riverside Hotel. There is an air of formality to the restaurant and you’re more likely to catch a table of 50 and older couples out for an evening of dining than a group of 20 or 30 somethings out for a night on the town. After 6 there is usually a piano player, which adds to the pleasant and tranquil atmosphere in the restaurant. The staff is spiffily dressed and plates are brought out with covers (which are more often than not a little battered and dented with time and wear). The decor and atmosphere is heavy and formal, but it’s a nice place to enjoy a peaceful meal.

The butter, which I was vastly amused by on my first visit is shaped like an elephant and makes for a few minutes of amused conversation. The crab cakes are a must and very delicious and the wait staff is quick and courteous it not always overtly friendly.
