A hidden gem in Trenton! We’d like to keep it a secret but it’s too good and it’s high time that more people know about it. Casual dining. BYOB.
EXCELLENT authentic Guatemalan dining. Please be prepared to speak at least a little spanish, or just point to the menu.
Everything that we’ve had is just terrific. My favorites so far are the pork (cerdo), chicken (pollo), and seafood (mariscos).
My all-time favorite is the Carne Adobada – pork rubbed with spices and grilled, with heaping portions of rice and beans and soft tortillas. I have to admit that this dish is so darn good that I order it nearly ever time that I go (but still sample whatever my girlfriend orders).
I must say that you won’t do much better than this for really good food and the prices are simply a true bargain. We had dinner there (again) the other night, and it ran $13 for the two of us, plus tip. The staff is very courteous and even other patrons will smile at you and thank you for coming. Where else do you get that?
The owner is a very nice fellow – all the recipes that you eat there were from his mother in Guatemala, where his family has been running restaurants for the last 75 years. And let me tell you – all that experience really shows – the food is something else!
Please be aware that portions are large. So, there’s no need to order appetizers. However, a side of their excellent (and made to order) guacamole is recommended. They have a really nice spicy green salsa that has just enough fire and loads of flavor.
If you have any room afterward, head over to nearby Amici for great italian desserts.
