What a recipe! If you seek the best pie in northern IL, it has been at the famous Gurnee Pizza for 24 years. We have been ordering from this single location for most of that time. Knowledgable pizza connoisseur’s attest to the taste and frequent guests to the area dine exclusively at Gurnee Pizza.

Truly a well kept secret by the locals. Ownership has changed thru the years, but the quality, taste and value are still the bedrock of this community. Virtually every hotel in the area will only refer “pizza” guests to this store for delivery or dine-in.

I write hundreds of pizza reviews, this store is a WINNER! TRY IT!

 

First let me start with I was giving this a second or third chance tonight. The last time I ordered a thin crust from Gurnee Pizza it tasted worse than a good frozen pizza. I highly doubt the dough is made fresh. I would bet that’s pre made crust no. It taste as boring/bland as the name of the restaurant. 1. The sausage is like these perfect little square dices worse than Domino’s or pizza hut. Farthest thing from Italian sausage. I’m Italian. Originally from Kenosha, which is/was an Italian town.(Infusino’s,Tenuta’s,Ruffalo’s,Villa D’ Carlo’s and so on)

So I know at least a decent pizza when I taste one. Aside from the pizza I got tonight the Owner and Manager were the worst I ever come across. That’s pretty bad after 39 years. So the owner answers tonight and I say I want to try pan pizza because the thin isn’t right , I’ve tried it a few times blah,blah. He says oh that was the old owner the pizza was no good and so on. So I think cool this will be good. That was a lie because as soon as I opened it I could tell it was the same low qual crappy bready crust. Thin or pan. Sauce horrible- same as before. Its a bland crummy out of the jar commercial nothing to it boring taste. I already mentioned the sausage. Not pretty. So no big deal right? One man’s paradise another Man’s poison. I call and talk to the kid answering the phone. He agrees and says “yea I know what you mean the stuffed is better. I said alright I’ll try that He says let me get the owner. He gets back on and says you didn’t like it? I was nice but explained no its not right at all. Its border line edible. Thick dry dough no taste. Then I suggested just getting something else a chicken sandwich or this stuffed pizza I can try that. He responds with NO my pizza is good blah blah and goes on in a show off way in front off his staff laughing me off being a wise guy. About how good his business is, I say I want you to prosper and do well if you like your pizza that’s great. I’m saying my opinion is different. I still want to eat I spent the money. I took 2 bites and realized its not for me. I reiterated I would gladly try the stuffed since that kid said it was better than the thin and pan or anything He turns into a typical jerk wanna city owner and tells me to pound sand. I said to him I feel riped off as a customer come and get your pizza and return my $20 if you can’t exchange something. Again he acted like a jerk and said see you later which he won’t. I call back his "manager” answers-the owners busy. I asked if he could get him seeing, I not only feel riped off but now hung up on. He says no and acts the same way. I tell him we’ll tell him sitting there next to you I hope his $20 means that much because what he’ll get is a horrible review of a horribly run and horrible tasting cheap low budget crap food restaurant.. He could care less and hung up on me for second time. So here it is. I sit and type this and stare at the worst pizza I ever ordered. Honestly the #1 worst. I should of learned before but time had gone by and I figured maybe the pan is different nope! Exact same cookie cutter off the Sysco Food service trucks as you can get. Let this be lessen for you later. Hopeful this will actually help you. First start with treating people right when things go wrong. Try and work it out. Who knows I could of loved your stuffed pizza or chicken sandwhich? I doubt it but it would of been worth it for you. Next work on your recipe, spend some money on better ingredients. Don’t say you do either because the proof is in the pie.
