1.0I’ve been going to this restaurant for years. More recently (not sure if it’s the economy), the service has been horrible. The waitresses are rude and short (and never admit when they are wrong — this is not the kind of service you get in Japan). The are very unattentive. I get even better and more cheerful service at McDonald’s. The food is also not as impressive as below — their tempura and fried foods are a bit soggy. If you want real Japanese food at the same price with excellent service, I highly suggest Osaka Sushi just down Castro Street. That’s my new favorite place. I am never going back to Hamano.
Fish was not fresh and had a weird texture.
Tofu was soggy and not crispy.
Came with ponzu sauce, which is just weird. When we approached the waitress, she said that was the right sauce. The table next to us got a nice soy/scallion-based sauce. Lack of consistency in service.

5.0Consistenly good sushi that’s easy on the wallet. Stick to sashimi and nigiri – their rolls feature some unusual items like tobiko and ooma that most may not like. But the fish is great quality. The best toro I’ve had in SF and I’ve eaten at all the more expensive spots.
