Tasty Hawaiian noodles at affordable prices

After reading all the rave reviews about Hamura’s saimin (Hawaiian noodle soup dish…a ‘cousin of ramen’), we had to give it a try before leaving Kauai. It’s located very close to the Lihue airport, so we dropped by for an early dinner before catching our flight back home. Luckily, the line was nonexistent and we were able to sit down right away. Walking in felt like a throwback to the ‘50s with its long U-shaped snake-like counter, small wooden stools, open kitchen, and minimalistic decor. The place was filled with more locals than tourists—always a good sign, right? The service was unfriendly at best, but the saimin noodles were delicious…reminded me of comfy, home food. Not flashy or over the top, but just a good, tasty bowl of warm noodles with the fixings. I’d go back. Will have to try the lilikoi (passion fruit) pie next time, supposedly delicious as well.

Dishes I tried:

A big bowl of warm wheat egg noodles topped with hearty meat dumplings, thin spam slices, pork slices, and green onions. I’d never had saimin noodles before, but it reminded me of ramen quite a bit. Yum!

Kauai's Own Hamura Saimin

Whenever I go back to Kauai, a visit to Hamura's is always on my "to do" list. Hands down they make the best saimin noodles. This place is always packed with locals and tourists so be prepared for a wait. Note: if you're still hungry,…

You will never find another like Hamura's

This is the best saimin stand ever! There's a reason why you have to stand in line to order a bowl of their best. They do not have saimin like this on the mainland. You have to get your fill while you can at Hamura's!
