For most people, Harold’s is not a place you sit down and eat your fried chicken. Usually located in neighborhoods that aren’t that great (go figure there’s one 3 blocks from me), we tried to get in and get out as quickly as possible. However, they have a policy of not frying the chicken until you order it so you inevitably always have to wait a bit. While some of the locations have bullet-proof glass at the counter, the one here is a little more inviting and offers several sit down booths. The only unappealing part here was the homeless guy with a bloody nose that was asking for money right after we ordered (while still in the restaurant). But as soon as he became a problem, the cashier shooed him out with threats to call the cops.

It’s called Harold’s “Chicken” Shack, but they seem to have all kinds of fried foods – fish, okra, etc. I got the bucket and box of fries (a great deal) but I want to go back to try the catfish.

Harold’s style is a little different from KFC and I can’t really think of the right words to describe it (I’ve been told it’s more southern home-style), but it’s definitely one of my top choices for chicken in the neighborhood.
