on your way up the escalator to catch a movie at Loew’s, you may have noticed a flaming red restaurant entrance on your left. and maybe like me (or not), you might have never even given a 2nd thought to trying out this southern cajun restaurant. and although i’m certainly no cajun food expert, i did rather enjoy eating dinner here the other week and wouldn’t mind returning again.

our cute waitress showed nothing but southern hospitality…and w/all the hot sauces on our table and ginormous mardi gras masks hanging from the ceiling, i couldn’t help but feel the southern atmosphere gushing from all over.

Taking my mother-in-law to dinner for her birthday, I decided to choose the “Jimmy Feed Me Jr.” option on the menu, which is basically a chef’s choice of 4 entrees plus my choice of dessert for $25. Remove “jr.” and it is 7 entrees for $35. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and the staff was accommodating of our infant and sat us outside of the heavy path of traffic.

Okay boys and girls, I discovered this restaurant after finding out trying to get into Dikta’s without reservations is a rather difficult task. It is kind of off the beaten path, being located by a movie theatre. That said, the gumbo was superb! The right spices and sausage, good rice, definitely recommended. I had an angry chicken po’ boy for the main course. It definitely had some kick to it, but not quite as spicy as I would have liked.

The other big plus is that I was able to walk right in and get seated. Granted I was by myself so I it made things a little easier but it was a pretty good meal at a good price.

This place is perfect for a Chicago night out with friends, especially those tired of pizza or steak! The ambiance is perfectly warm, Cajun and loud, the food is pretty authentic, and they sell about an entire wall of hot sauce in case you can’t get enough there….definitely a great experience!

Love the decor and the service. Fun and kitchy with a Louisana twist. Almost every dish is spicy and make sure to try the red beans and rice. Their Long Island is very strong, but very good.
