I went to Husk a few months ago for the first time and found the experience far different than for restaurant week. I would have expected more consistency out of a restaurant with its reputation. There were several dishes to choose from, but our table seemed to settle on two of them. The wine was very good, but also very expensive – $15 a glass and the bottle was $54.
The appetizer of crostini with pimento cheese and bacon jam was delicous and plentiful – shared with the whole table. The main course of rudderfish with risotto was average at best. The fish was very bland, but the risotto with it made it better. The others that got the steak made a great choice – very tender and flavorful. My dessert of the pecan pie was good, but not overwhelming. The bread pudding (according to others at the table) was without any flavor and was sent back.

Husk has been my favorite restaurant in Charleston from their opening in October, 2010. But during 2012 Restaurant Week, the food and service slipped very noticeably. Hoping it’s just the crowds and the “three courses for $30” pressure. The rudderfish, described by the server as “very like yellowfin (ahi) tuna, sashimi quality,” was instead a rather thin piece of bland, white fish with breading! It tasted fine, but didn’t live up to the billing. A companion’s sirloin was wonderful, she said, but was medium rare, not medium well, as she ordered. Beet and goat cheese salad was huge, presented beautifully, but the blue cheese dressing was watery, and sparse. Bread pudding was so rubbery and tasteless that we sent it back, but oatmeal pie was fabulous, and pecan tart pretty good.
For the first time at this restaurant, our server was distant, and not attentive. Didn’t offer condiments, didn’t ask if we were enjoying our food…again, not bad for an ordinary restaurant, but way below the standards Husk set before they were awarded the “best new restaurant in America” designation by Bon Appetit.
very average, breaded, bland white fish

Went during restaurant week and was quite disappointed overall. The salad could have been great, however the dressing was very watery. The steak was fine, but nothing memorable. The bread pudding was so bad that 4 of us ordered it and all of us sent it back. It was not edible. Maybe now that they have been voted one of the best restaurants they feel they can slack off. The service was also not good.
The steak was good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I’ll give them another chance, but perhaps it was during food week the kitchen was overwhelmed? but it this experience was mediocre at best. Perhaps I had high expectations with the recent write ups and accolades? I do plan to return to try again.
The steak was cooked to request and was tasty and the table agreed was the best choice of the table.

Was there with a table of 8 for restaurant week. The service and food was less than idea all around. Half the table sent their bread pudding back to the kitchen to exchange for a different desert. The rudderfish was not very good and the other meals were nothing above average. This is disappointing because I was there about a year ago and the food was excellent. Will probably try again outside of restaurant week and see how it is.
Was very tasteless. It was described as a sweet fish and I was hoping for something like a chilean sea bass but this was very disappointing.
The oatmeal pie desert was the best desert on the menu. It wasn’t the best desert I’ve ever had but it wasn’t bad at all. Much better than the bread pudding which got sent back to the kitchen by half the table.
