Cute brunch place

This Bucktown restaurant is a very cute restaurant. I’ve only been here for brunch but I also heard that their dinners are delicious. One side of the restaurant has a cute homey feel while the other has a more rougher atmosphere. On the cute side, I even saw a bridal shower being held there.

Overall the service, atmosphere, and food was excellent. I would definitely go back to try their dinner entrees. And I also want to try their breakfast burrito which looked yummy.

Dishes I tried:

Banana Nut Bread French Toast

This dish is very sweet and delicious. I would have given it 5 stars if only the turkey sausage that came with the french toast was better. The sausage barely had any flavor. The roasted potatoes were much better than the sausages but it was a little too salty.

Eggs Benedict

Excellent choice. The hollandaise sauce needed more lemon in it.

Honey Butter

At the beginning of the meal they bring a small loaf of bread (bread isn’t so great) with a pat of this honey butter. I loved the sweetness of the butter.

Great Presentation, Atmosphere, and Awesome Brunch!

Came to Jane’s with some friends for Sunday Brunch. Had a reservation and was seated right aways. Janes is tucked away in what looks like use to be a single family home. Very cool and open on the inside, exposed wood through out. There were also about 6 tables on outside on the side walk. I ordered the daily special Frittata, it was served in block with cheese, sausage, egg, and potato. Great presentation and flavor. The Frittata was served with a nice size cup of fresh fruit. I also got to try the Banana Nut Bread French Toast. The french toast was really good, it was served with a side of poato’s and sausage, those were bland.

All meals are also served with fresh bread, and a very very tasty honey butter.

Coffe was fresh and plentiful.

Egg, Sausage, Cheese and Potato served with fresh fruit. Very good, but would order the Banana Nut Bread french toast on my next visit.

Trendy and cozy date spot

Another friday night looking for a nice meal to unwind. Jane’s was on my try list since hk123j had a good review of the brunch and said that dinner also sounded good. Pretty easy to get to by car (right off the armitage exit) and there was pretty easy street parking.

From the outside, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Jane’s. It looks like a small building and the lighting was really dark so I couldn’t see all the people inside. Once you’re inside you see why people call it cute. The decor in the main dining room is very romantic. It’s dark with table-top candles and there’s even a couple tables in the elevated window display area. My only qualm about the environment is that it’s a little cozy and tight – some of the tables are really close together so your intimate discussion might be one that’s shared with your neighbors.

Since we didn’t have a reservation we had to wait 15 min. Conveniently, there’s another dining room and a bar to wait at. The 2nd dining room seems a bit bigger and is more lit that the main one. It’s also decorated in a more modern flavor.

The service is very friendly and the food was very good. Not huge portions, but just enough to satisfy you and not let you go overboard ;)

The dessert menu was pretty sparse so I’d go somewhere else for after dinner sweets.

Dishes I tried:

Prosciutto and Fresh Mozzarella Stuffed Chicken Breast

The chicken had very good flavor due to the prosciutto and the toscano sauce (a tomato-based sauce). It was quite tender and moist. I wish there were 2 pieces!

Zucchini Soup (soup of the day)

A nice zucchini puree that wasn’t too strong and had a hint of spiciness on the lips. I really liked the crispy bits in the soup that mixed up the texture.

cozy & cute

could this place be any cuter?! came here for dinner on a friday night, and it was packed. luckily, the wait was only 15 min and there was plenty of room at the backroom bar to wait.

food: delicious, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. the prices are on the hefty side, but the dishes are so tasty and unordinary it’s close to justifiable.

service: very pleasant and easy-going/casual, yet still attentive and professional.

ambience: there are 2 rooms in 2 adjacent buildings connected at the back. each room has its own feel – since i’ve only been for dinner, one is more dark, intimate (great for dates), and the other is brighter, more open yet still intimate enough for taking a date. saw a lot of people in large groups here too though. my only issue would be the cozyness. you can share in your neighbors conversations if you wanted to. =p

brunch here is also good.

Dishes I tried:

holy moly there was a lot of sashimi in this dish! big slabs of thinly cut tuna seasoned rather heavily w/ginger & other tasty stuff. actually had a bit of a kick to it. this dish is really a salad, so don’t order if you’re not green-friendly.

i’m not a fan of tomatoes (only b/c my stomach can’t handle the acid) so as much as i love “stuffed” anything, i didn’t order this dish. but i did get a taste, and the chicken was suprisingly flavorful & JUUUIIICCYY. none of that dry stuff here.

Zucchini Soup (soup of the day)

i was expecting something creamy, but this soup was actually more light and thin. very flavorful, and the zucchini flavor actually wasn’t overpowering but more subtle. great soup.
