After 3 Sunday “Urban BBQs” and a mid-week dinner visit, I’ve been reduced to a fanboy of, and walking ad for, Joule.
Today’s BBQ star is an incredible (and quite original) French dip — and that’s on vegetable day (there’s a vegetarian entree as well). On the dinner menu, the seafood salad, bison hangar steak, and gouda cornbread are not to be missed. Sitting at the bar watching Rachel and Seif is Kitchen Confidential in the flesh.
It’s one of not that many must-try restaurants in Seattle.

My husband and I went to Joule for the first time at around 9 o’clock on a Saturday night, without reservations. It was packed, but with 2 seats at the bar which we gladly took, because the bar overlooks the kitchen and we enjoy watching food preps.
Over our glass of wine we discussed the menu while we saw several wonderful concoctions being created.
The chefs were calm and zen like in their careful cooking and plating of each dish.
A whole dorade (dorado/snapper) cooked on the grill with sweet and sour eggplant. This was exquisite, the fish perfectly cooked, white and succulent with a roasted lemon on the side and this wonderful eggplant. The chef in front of us explained the contents and preparation.
Every dish was a taste sensation.
We will be back, regularly!
Another dish my husband had was just perfect also, we ordered a side of cauliflower with raisins and spices that too was wonderful.
For dessert we had a ‘Joule box’ which we had seen the preparation of and were intrigued. It consisted of a bed of tapioca on which is laid a row of pink grapefruit slices, sprlnkled with brown sugar and torched to a crisp carmelized top. Also the rhubarb and ginger sorbet, a delightful end to a memorable meal.
