This is review #2 for the larger part of the restaurant. Here you order dishes like at your typical Chinese restaurant, rather than just a quick cafe noodle soup bar.
I like to compare this place to Daimo Restaurant in Richmond, CA. Joy Luck is a pricey and upscale restaurant. It’s decorated nicely, and it’s built with a vaulted ceiling so it feels spacious, also due to its large floorspace. Many banquets take place here, and you will frequently find wedding dinners here.
The food is excellent, and some of the best Chinese dishes are offered here. Lotus root soup, shark fin soup, expensive fishes like sea bass, lobster, crab, etc. If you wanted gourmet Chinese food, this is the place to go. You’re not going to be ordering Kung Pao Chicken here, and if you do, you’re wasting your stomach space. Try the seafood, and the exotic dishes you won’t find at your average Chinese restaurant.
Just a soup and two dishes ran me into the $40s. There’s cheaper foods out there, but definitely, the food is well worth the money here. To those of you familiar with Daimo, it’s even more expensive.
