5.0My follow-up review for this restaurant. Read my previous review for this restaurant here
a mountain of boiled won tons. soft wrapper and a juicy stuffing of meats. i’m a big fan of dumplings of any kind in general, so this dish was a winner for me.
i like noodles, and i like duck so i thought, why not put them together?? the soup base was tasty, flavorful, and fatty fatty fatty. the amount of duck was decent, and some pieces were moist and delicious, others seemed to be more bone than duck. noodles were the round kind and a little overcooked. overall an alright soup bowl, but not the best. (i think i’d rather get the won ton soup bowl.)
sesame chicken caught me off guard – i wasn’t expecting it to be so fresh and good. most places that i’ve been to offering deep fried dishes either put too much batter or serve a few days old food. this was neither. if you like deep fried, give this one a try!
yummmy!!! i don’t think they use fresh peaches (probably canned), but that’s ok cause this boba is one heck of a refreshing drink. i decided to take it easy and went w/the mini pearls – adds a little kick to each slurp. don’t forget to ask for the ‘fruit top’ if you haven’t had your fruit for the day!
3.5/4 stars. comes in half a pineapple so it has the novelty cool factor. the dish overall is very sweet (probably fr/the lychee and pineapple additions), and you’ll probably want to choose a different pineapple boat fried rice if you’re not a big fan of sweets. i enjoyed the dish though – the fruits kept it light & refreshing, the chicken was tender, and the shrimp wasn’t that puny, teeny tiny kind.

4.0Agree w/ previous reviews and good recommendations. Besides providing the tasty dishes so far Joy Yee has the best tapioca drinks in Chicago. It has plenty of drink selections to choose from. yum yum…. I love boba drinks. =)
This dish takes 15-20min to prepare and it comes out boiling hot. It is slightly spicy/salty and goes well w/ rice.
The tapioca is not too hard and still has its bouncy consistency. The mango freeze is very yummy as well.

4.0This Joy Yee’s environment is vastly better than the one in Chinatown – whereas the Chinatown is small and cramped beyond belief, this new one is wonderfully spacious and nicely decorated in a mixed asian/modern design.
If you’re into asian-style drinks like slushies and bubble tea, Joy Yee’s is the place for you. Not only do they make their fruit drinks from fresh fruit, but their portions are absolutely huge. These were the best slushies I’ve had in at least a year.
Joy Yee’s is not a place for the indecisive. Their menu is absolutely huge, covers the range of asian cuisine, and throws in interesting combinations to boot. I usually try picking from the items with the longest names, as I’m bound to get something interesting. The pictures on the menu help a lot too.
Overall, the food is decent, the quantities are large, and the drinks are fantastic. This is a great place for a quick meal near UIC.
Boy, they sure don’t skimp on the oysters in this dish. If anything, I was suffering from oyster overload, which meant the dish was a bit too salty for my tastes.
I’m a huge fan of this drink. Not too sweet, but just enough flavor to satisfy this honeydew fan. Even better, it comes in a huge mug!

4.0This place definitely has a remarkable menu. It has like a million things on the list and there are also an enormous amount of pictures. There drink menu has like almost any combination of fruits and stuff you would want. The fusions of food is a common theme throughout the menu.
The food itself is pretty solid. Some dishes are better than others and there does seem to be some MSG used in dishes. The hit and miss nature makes sense considering the combinations they offer. Many of the dishes have excellent presentation, like curry being in a coconut, rice being in a pineapple and so on. Joy Yee’s has a good business plan because people will want to keep coming back to see and try all the dishes.
Definitely a good restaurant if you feel like eating Asian food but not sure what kind exactly. The prices aren’t too expensive, especially if you don’t get a drink, but the drinks are probably the best stuff here. I love the sheer variety of the place and wanna try many other dishes they offer.
A flavor packed freeze, which is fruity and very sweet.
A tasty version of pad thai, with each bite being full of flavor and peanut goodness.
This chicken is deep-fried and a little too bready. It still tastes pretty good, but you probably can’t eat too much of it. The sauce is also quite sweet and likely MSG laden. There’s probably better chicken dishes to order.
The rice is in a bowl while the curry chicken is in an emptied coconut. The rice seemed normal, though might have had a little more taste and kick to it. You don’t get enough food in this dish compared to other ones though. It could use more chicken, which isn’t too shabby.

2.0I usually do Yang’s for delivery but I thought I’d give this place a try. The pork and string bean is good but not as good as Yang’s. The prices are a little high. The location on south Halsted looks cute and I may try it again and order something else. The dishes I had gave me total MSG coma.
This dish was good but way too much batter think chicken in a donut, with MSG sauce.

3.0This location is way less crazy than Chinatown’s. I’m really never disappointed here. I keep forgetting their soups can feed like 4 people tho. The tapioca freezes are amazing. They beat anything I’ve had out in Seattle.
