mmm matcha!

I’m more of a tea-drinker than anything else (read: coffee) so I was pretty excited when I discovered KOOTS in Lincoln Square. The whole place has a calming effect due to its wood decor and the installation of a tatami mat space, which nearly transports me to the japanese tea ceremony that I study. I like the non-franchise feel, unlike its neighboring cafes, and the fact that they use organic ingredients is a plus.

If you’re new to matcha (thick, frothy, and almost-always bitter green tea), try the matcha soft serve. It’s one of the best I’ve ever tasted. Their hot beverages can be inconsistent in flavor.

Dishes I tried:

The last one I had was a tad too bitter, possibly because the tea powder wasn’t whisked all the way through or there was too much match powder. It was good at the bottom where the milk had collected.

Sooo good, even in the winter. Honestly one of the best matcha ice creams around. The waffle cone is cheaper than a cup.

When it’s made right: rich, creamy, and fragrant. I’ve had a diluted one, though, bleh. Press your luck.

Matcha at KOOTS or Starbucks?

Thanks to starbucks’ successful launch of Japanese green tea latte, Matcha (Japanese green tea powder) flavor gained a lot more recognition in the States,

As a big Matcha fan, I highly recommend Matcha at KOOTS, which is way more authentic and healthier.
I tried KOOTS at Narita airport in Tokyo b4, and I am quite satisfied with its consistency at belleuve– coming oversea without changing its personality.

Location is important too, I usually grab a Matcha latte at KOOTS before going up 1 more floor for movie at Lincoln Square. I heard they will open a second store in Westlake downtown seattle. Even though KOOTS is far less known than starbucks, I see it an interesting play between tea and coffee.

It’s not as sweet as the one at Starbucks, but quite authentic.

for matcha lovers

Delicious! I dropped by KOOTS on a shopping run at Bellevue Square. They have all kinds of good looking treats, and all green tea themed. I recommend the matcha green tea – but there’s desserts also look delicious!

Delicious! They use a whisk to make it and it comes out frothy and light.

Green tea cookie goes well with any of the hot tea beverages.

koots

I came here for I had a free complimentary coupon… I thought the drinks were not bad… I do not recommend their sushi rolls. Their rolls tastes like it was prepared the night before. Tastes worst than safeway….

Their soft icecream is enjoyable on a warm sunny day…
