General: A great cozy little restaurant between Chinatown and SoHo. Tried this place out because there aren’t that many places in the city that serve Filipino food (you must usually trek out to Queens), plus this place adds in Thai and Japanese twists to the food. It’s served tapas style.
Decor/Ambience: small cozy place on the second floor (not much of a store front so look carefully or you’ll miss it). Bamboo artwork. Great place for a date. Groups larger than 6 would be hard to pull off without a reservation.
Drinks: Sake list is available (I like to drink it but am not so knowledgeable on it so can’t say if it’s a great list or not). Also offered a sake sangria which sounds real interesting but I didn’t try.
Food: Menu highlights their signature items, which is helpful.
- Lechon (pork): very nice, crispy, not too oily, and accompanied by a great sauce (recommended)
- Edamame: not your typical edamame, has great flavor, richer and a little sour than regular edamame (recommended)
- Tuna tartare: good, more lemony than other tartare’s I have tried without being too sour
- Scallops: a little salty for my taste
- Sauteed shrimp: not very memorable
- Oyster omelette: very good
- Egg roll shanghai: tasty, not oily
- Chinese sausage: served with onions and sticky rice, very excellent, not too oily (recommended)
- Sticky rice: very good
- Garlic rice: also very good, though could have used more garlic (but I’m a garlic freak)
Dessert: did not try
Staff/Service: Very friendly although not very attentive to filling water glasses though (one of my pet peeves).
Price: Less than $30 per person including drinks.
Would I go here again?: Yes
