spice it up in K-Town

Kunjip is a mainstay in NYC K-Town, you can’t go wrong eating here. You’ll get plenty of food at a reasonable price. Be prepared to wait for a table though on the weekends. This place is always bustling and jam packed with people. Wait staff is not particularly impressive but they get it done and the food comes out pretty fast. For the price and the amount and quality of the food I love to come to this place. Overall I’ve been happy with the spiciness level too of the food – a lot of Korean places dumb down the spice level.

Other good options are BCD Tofu House down the block if the wait is too long here.

Dishes I tried:

Kimchi Jigae

Tasty, spicy kimchi stew. One of my staples I usually choose between this and soon du bu. One thing is I kind of wish there was a bit more meat.

stomach churning service

kunjip is not worth the hassle. thank goodness there are a plethora of other fantastic korean restaurants in the area… today…we left a 15% tip which was $6 dollars. i wrote my tip ($3) on my receipt for the use of my credit card and my friend left her portion of the tip ($3) in cash. as we were leaving my friend ( i was already outside) was stoppped and harrased initially by the angry waitress and then the manager as to why we only left $3 dollars as tip on the credit card receipt. they accused her/us of only leaving $3. we were not sure who took the bill, but we left our 15% tip ($6). my friend was made to feel like a criminal for the tip we left. first off, no customer should ever be scolded by the staff for the tip they choose to leave and secondly we did leave a 15% tip and it is not our fault other members of the waitstaff who collected our tip of $6 perhaps pocketed the remaining $3 dollars. this incident of being scolded by a waitress and a manager ruined our entire afternoon and made the food that we ate stomach churning.

Best Korean in K-town! They are open all night. I love that they serve free chawamushi (steamed omelet) as part of the appetizer. They also serve wild rice, definitely a must for the health-conscious.

The best Korean food all around in Manhattan

The Korean food in Manhattan is definitely not as good as LA, but Kunjip comes close. There is always a line coming out of this place (located by Pinkberry) and there’s a reason why… it’s reminds of homecooked Korean food.

Dishes I tried:

This seafood stew is cooked right in front of you at the table. When I go to Kunjip in a group of 3+, I’ll usually order this. It’s loaded with all kinds of seafood in a spicy soup.
