Best restaurant in NYC. Sit at the sushi bar and get the omakase. You have to have a very flat utility function vis-a-vis the prices.
The chef/owner Toshi Uezu has had this place up and running for 30 years (as of earlier this year). He gave a 30 year anniversary party with his usual quality fish that went on for 5 hours. It must have cost him $300k, and he had loyal customers flying in from Japan and Barcelona who wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
Toshi will spare no expense or effort to give his customers the best quality fish that exists. I used to eat here every other week, so I was able to experience the seasonal varieties of what he gets.
Also, the guy is just a great personality. He should be declared a national treasure, seriously.
Btw, the red miso soup with Japanese mushrooms is awesome. And the fruit he serves for dessert is always great as well.
