Enjoyable!
I’ve seen some bad reviews of this restaurant on other sites, but I had a very pleasant and delicious dinner at La Tomate. I ordered the Farfalle Prosciutto e Funghi and loved it. My fiance ordered the Trenette Nere “La Tomate” and wasn’t as impressed.
The service was fine, as in nothing astounding, but no beverages in my lap either. The food came relatively quickly, too. I think I remember the appitizer, the Prosciutto e Mozzarella Fresca, being a little lack-luster, but I can’t be sure.
In closing, I would definately return here, but mainly becasue the Farfalle Prosciutto e Funghi was just delicious.
Dishes I tried:
Farfalle Prosciutto e Funghi
It was amazing! I really like cream sauces, and the prosciutto added this great flavor.

Total disappointment
I have passed this restaurant many times as it is located at a prime location in Dupont and when a Groupon became available, I jumped at the chance to try it out.
The atmosphere is a bit stuffy inside the restaurant and cramped – it is very narrow in the area we were seated. The server was pleasant as we were seated and took our orders. However, as dinner progressed less attention was provided to our table.
To the food, the biggest disappointment. The starting price for the restaurant is $15 and the portion size for all entrees was disappointing. That could have been tolerable if the food was of great quality. However, the food was overall unsatisfying. Everyone at the table was unhappy.
I feel the best thing about this restaurant is its location and view of Connecticut Avenue. Definitely not worth a visit.
Dishes I tried:
Fusilli alla Norma
The best dish at the table, which I selected. The pasta was cooked correctly and the red sauce was tasty. However, the eggplant was lacking in quantity – it was a few chunks in the pasta and was not enough to even have enough in every bite. I felt a little jipped, but the dish itself was tolerable.
Fettuccine all'Adriatico
The seafood was cooked properly and was of acceptable caliber. The problem was with the “white wine sauce” which tasted like “spaghettos” as the person eating this dish stated. The sauce was overly citric, too bitter, and did have a remarkable familiarity to spaghettos – not a good thing.
Penne Integrali al Pesto con Pollo e Pomodori Secchi
By far the WORST dish at the table. The pasta was overcooked, gummy, and tasted like cardboard – it was not one of the newer wholewheat pastas. Pairing this pasta with a simple pesto is a mistake – a red sauce might have been better, but the pasta was just bad. The chicken on top of the pasta had the remarkably perfect grill marks that come with frozen patties used at school cafeterias.
AWFUL!
