4.0prime rib is good stuff. i used to get my fill from the house of prime rib in san francisco and was happy to find that there’s a lawry’s in chicago. the deal is pretty much the same – different cuts of prime rib (with complimentary additional helpings if you’re still hungry), served with tasty salad, bread pudding and mashed potatoes.
the only downside is the atmosphere – it’s very old-feeling. all the old people eating there didn’t help. it wasn’t exactly a place you want to hang out at for a long time if you’re under 40. but, if you like prime rib, it’s definitely worth a trip.
It’s bigger than the rest, but not necessarily better – especially if you can get additional helpings of the other cuts.
The thinner cut actually has much better taste. Not as filling, but there’s plenty of sides and you can get more if you ask. My only complaint is that it’s so thin that you don’t get that pleasurable feeling of ripping through meat.
Solid prime rib. Enough thickness to feel good biting through and a decent amount of taste.

3.0i’ve been to lawry’s in L.A., S.F. (House of Prime Rib), and now chicago. there are subtle differences (side dish offerings), but for the most part, the premise/set-up, decor, service, and food are the same across the board.
if you choose to go for the prime rib offering, the menu involves a choice of prime rib cut, potato (baked, mashed), bread pudding, the famous “spinning” salad, and side dishes (creamed spinach, creamed corn, etc). guaranteed, by the end of your meal, you’ll be stuffed, bloated, and ready for a nap.
i enjoy an outing to lawry’s every now and then, but not too often…it’s an odd combo of satisfying, yet sickening feeling of how much food can be consumed here in one sitting.
lawry’s is a good place to dine w/lots of friends or w/that special someone – it’s semi-fancy, but not uber-fancy…somewhere in between. i’d recommend lawry’s to anyone interested in some good prime rib.

4.0It is a nice place to have steak. My nephew can have two servings if no one stops him. However, I do not think any of them is complimentary. The spinning salad does not spin on the table like in Esther’s review. The mashed potatoes is not seasoned with rosemary or dill. Hmm…………. Try it again! Compared to the other good steak restaurants in the Midwest, Lawry’s is pretty reasonable in their price. You can buy their famous salad dressing there which does not offer in the regular grocery store like their seasoned salt. They can serve 2-3 rounds per table per evening, so definitely not a good place to hang out for a long time. Valet parking is only offered in the evening. They will validate 3-hours parking in the nearby garage for lunch time. Very good service.

4.0I think this restaurant is for old steak-eating people. Highly recommended for Iris. The spinning salad is mind-blowing. Not the salad itself, just how it spins on the table. If you ever go, be sure to order the Chocolate Bag. It’s a secret or something, and one of the most expensive desserts you’ll ever order around here… But it’s tastebud-blowing. Yummy mashed potatoes. Rosemary or dill weed seasoned, I think. The servers are dressed in funny 50’s or Victorian costume suit things, but very professional. The food is good but not excellent especially for the price… BUT I can’t live without Lawry’s Seasoned Salt. For serious.

06/03/2007Ah, I miss that Lawry Cut. You didn’t really eat all 3 by yourself did you?
