This little gem deserves to be among the top of New Orleans’ Poboy emporiums! I am a connoisseur of the bread and meat variety and I’m always looking to find the perfect po-boy sandwich. I’ve been twice to Mahony’s and have hit the jackpot both times, and my dining partner agrees wholeheartedly. There’s not a lot of talking going on while we are savoring these delectable sandwiches….mmmm I don’t even want to think about it because I’m going to start to crave one.
On my first visit, I tried the cochon de lait po-boy. The pork was juicy and tasty. The bread, long and thin, perfectly crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Mahony’s serves it with coleslaw in the sandwich and while I was apprenhesive about it, I decided to try it as the chef intended it to be. My friend ordred a grilled shrimp po-boy, which usually comes with remoulde sauce and fried green tomatoes—but she skipped the calorie added parts. We ordered a basket of fries and a basket of onion rings, not realizing how big the portions are of each. Two can easily eat from one portion of either, and I highly recommend the onion rings. I’m not usually a big fan of onion rings but these are more like onion strings—very thin, deliciously seasoned, fried pieces of heaven (which is what I call it!) The fries were great too, they seemed hand cut almost and they were hot and crispy. But the onion strings are the true winners in the side orders.

If I didn’t live 20 miles from there, I’d be hopping in my car right now to pickup a sandwich right now!!
The only tiny thing I would complain that it is higher priced than normal po-boy shops—but the food is so good that it’s worth it.
