Always full of flavor

Tired of eating bland, home-cooked meals, we came to Malay Satay Hut looking for flavor, and we definitely found it. Malay Satay Hut was packed with diners during the dinner hour, and as a result service was pretty slow. The food itself was very tasty, which helps to solidify Malay Satay Hut as one of the few “unique” Eastside restaurants that don’t fall in the usual Chinese/Indian/Thai/Japanese ethnic category.

Dishes I tried:

Everyone gets the Roti Canai as an appetizer. Everyone. It’s that good (or ppl are that brainwashed) =)

One of my favorite dishes here, because the contents are fairly light in flavor and the included veggies make you feel healthy, even as you’re munching down on the deep-fried taro “yam pot”.

Spicy veggies. Tasty and supposedly healthy too.

I thought the curry was far too watery.

Malay OK

Nice menu, presentation, dining room. Cleam efficient service, although a little chilly.
Items did not come out together was my only gripe. I had almost fininshed my entree when the little womens came out.
Nice variety makes us sure we will come back!
Lots of Asian ethnicities, families…made us feel confident we were in for authentic fare.

Tofu fried too crisp, overall very pleasant, expected to get a request for hotness but weathered the spicy, bird chili flecked dish quite well

Portion size was small. oil from frying permeated the end product, novel but forgettable

Not a bad lunch

I had an okay lunch here. They do brisk business, and there’s a lot on the menu, but the lunch menu is compact and reasonably priced. We were brought a nice hot pot of tea right away. Service wasn’t anything special, but it was friendly enough.

One potentially significant problem with the Satay Hut is the big sign on the front door that they only accept credit/debit cards on orders of $25 or more. This strikes me as remarkably steep (if not an outright violation of merchant agreeements?).

Dishes I tried:

Big chunks of chicken in curry sauce, with some marinated veggetables and rice. The curry was fine, but the meal overall just didn’t grab me.

Nasi Lemak is delicious (curry chicken with coconut rice and some curry veggies on the side). A little expensive for Asian food, but the curries are great and there are some pretty exotic selections. Service is not particularly friendly, and you might get your entree 5 minutes before your friend does, or vice versa. They make you pay cash so they can cheat on their taxes. Pretty decent Malaysian food overall though.
