| Summary: The SceneThe loyal regulars of this brunch mecca know that the often-long waits are worth it. While hungry couples and eager families order at the counter prior to being seated, and the outdoor bathroom can seem daunting, the ever-smiling service will brighten any mood--even before morning coffee. The FoodThe sparse country-style decor belies the gourmet goods--this place caters to the breakfast epicure with a big appetite. Fluffy "m'omelettes" are perfectly cooked without a speck of brown, bulging with fillers like pancetta and garlicky cheese. Made with freshly baked breads, the many French toast offerings--Kugelpuph, with cinnamon-swirled brioche, or Apple Pan Dore, crispy baguette slices and warm apples in a light butter-lemon sauce, are equally tempting. A daily changing specials board features items like crab Benedict with spinach. Lunch offerings are also substantial, with enormous burgers and turkey clubs. | ||

Mama's on Washington Square

Faboo brunch
This is among my favorite brunch places in the city. It’s in Washington Sq in North Beach, and it’s a cute place where you wait for a table, order your food in a cafeteria style-line where everything is prepped in plain view of all the diners (but looks great and very un-cafeteria-like), and then sit and wait for the delicious dishes to come. On top of difficult North Beach parking, everyone knows about this place and the lines are always long, so plan accordingly. That said, the portions are large, and very yummy! My favorites are the Monte Cristo sandwich (which they are known for) and the french bread creations: typical tasty choices as well as whatever tasty types they have that morning (brioche, bread with cinnamon swirls, etc etc). Tasty, moderately-priced, and not pretentious at all!

I love this place but getting parking and a table is such a pain that I rarely ever go. That being said, I don’t think that I’ve eaten better breakfast food anywhere else. The french toast with strawberries is so fluffy and scrumptious. Would go every week if I could get a table.

The best breakfast you ever had anywhere- you’ll lick your plate clean, I promise. If you go with a friend/lover/whatever, order a sweet dish to share- preferably the Chocolate French toast with berries (be sure to add the huckleberry jam on top). But make sure to have a snack before going, there is line. And if you see Cyrus, tell him I said Hello :)

Mind altering breakfast. Best in the city and frankly, the best American breakfast I’ve had anywhere. Highest recommendation. There’s always a line and it’s always worth the wait. They close at 3 so get there just before that on a sunday and it’s not too bad.

The Monte Cristo!!! Probably one of my favorite brunch places in SF. Wait is long & parking is a scarcity, but once a plate of breakfast is in front of you, you quickly forget the 1 hour long wait you just did. yummy place!

I like that there are a ton of sweet breakfasts too!
Oh yes, their breakfasts are very good, but what's with the wait? Maybe put some tables outside? Do something, other than just raise prices, and hey maybe I'll be back! On the good note, I appreciate their maybe homemade jam? I like that there ar...
