Manee House was open for a couple of years in an awkward strip mall, and then closed for a couple years, and then re-opened in yet another awkward strip mall (we have a lot of those). But from then to now, it is one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve had the pleasure of going to.
In the Santa Clarita Valley, it is common to qualify judgements: “It’s a pretty good italian joint, for the SCV..” Manee House needs no such qualification. It’s just a great restaurant. You can probably tell I’m a fan.
The SCV has a bevy of cheap and less authentic Thai restaurants- those, combined with the awkward strip mall location, may be why Manee House has been struggling to get a consistent clientele. It’s certainly not because of the food.
A normal trip to Manee house for me begins with inviting everyone I can possibly think of. There are so many great dishes on the menu that I would feel silly ordering all of them for myself.
The dining area is pleasant, clean and modest, and the staff is usually quite good at what they do. But don’t expect it to be perfect. Like many of the restaurants I’ve been to in Thailand, they worried about the important things: Food, service, cleanliness- and might have forgotten to properly install ALL of the ceiling tiles over the bar area.
