Beefeaters Paradise

The best reason to venture into the Maple is for a hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potato, swimming in rich, brown gravy. AND also to pat ‘Tom the ceramic pig’ on the snout. (he’s my idol) The roast beef is sliced thinly, piled reasonably high, and the most tender beef sandwich I have ever had anywhere. There is no ambience to be had. This is a local-yokle dive. The friendly, cheerful staff are attentive. Service is fairly swift. They do get crowded. Go early or late, if you don’t have the time to wait. They serve dinners until 9pm. This restaurant looks like a diner that got a remuggling in 1970 and lost it’s counter and bar stools. They have various dinner specials depending on the night of the week and all are served with salad and potato. They allow substitution for another side. I once tried the Friday night fried scallop dinner and did not like it. The scallops were chewy and not sweet. Most meals cost from about $5.00 – $14.00. They no longer allow smoking.

Dishes I tried:

Liver & Onions or bacon

I had mine with onions. He had his with bacon. Both were good. Cooked lightly, still a tad of pink inside. Not chewy or tough. the grilled onions were tender as well. This combo was so good with the mashed potato and brown gravy that I wonder why I bother doing the dish at home?

not Hot Beef Sandwich

This place is pretty much what one would expect in a small dying rust-belt town. I tried the hot roast beef sandwich which was tender, but barely warm and basically without taste. I ate about half of it.

Another terrific meal - roast pork

The Maple Restaurant has been serving Beaver Valley patrons since 1963. Although located off the beaten path, this local eatery is known best for its roast beef dinners & sandwiches.
Entry is at street-level, with free parking across the street. Now a smoke-free restaurant. Men’s restaurant is located downstairs in the basement. Accepts cash or plastic. Seating for about 100. Booths located in the front section, with tables in back near the kitchen.

Although the Maple has an established reputation for its fantastic roast beef meals, I chose a different meal from their Tuesday Special listing — roast pork. The meal came with two sides: My selection -- mashed potatoes & salad.
Salad arrived promptly with a basket of sliced Italian bread. Salad consisted of iceberg lettuce, tomato wedges, sliced radish, bell pepper ring and green olives. Everything was fresh, chilled & eye-appealing.
Dinner arrived piping-hot near completion of the salad. Very generous portion of lean, sliced pork -- tender & flavorful. A serated knife was provided, but the meat was so tender it could be cut with simply a fork. Mound of genuine mashed potatoes served on the same plate.
Excellent food at a fair price, combined with outstanding service.
