4.0New Paltz is definitely a college town occupied with many students from Suny College. That also means local establishments try and accommodate around a student’s budgetary needs. McGillicuddy’s definitely is a favorite hangout for these college kids providing both food and entertainment. There is plenty to do from watching one of the eighteen televisions, catching a big game, shooting pool, throwing darts, or letting loose with DJs and drink specials.
A popular menu item is the panini. I tried the Chicken Godfather Panini and definitely loved the combination of crispy chicken tenders with tomato, garlic and mozzarella cheese for only $8.95. You have a choice of french fries, baked potato or side salad with this dish. Another popular menu item is the chicken wings. I can see why with over 20 flavors to choose from. 10 wings cost $6.95 served with bleu cheese and celery. The range of flavors go from sweet (honey BBQ, coconut peanut, teriyaki, Jamaican jerk and more) all the way to hot (red hot BBQ, inferno, 3 alarm, volcanic, and more). Wing night happens every Monday for 40 cents each all day long.
There is a good selection of beers available. I would be surprised if there wasn’t considering that this is supposed to be an Irish pub. With darts and pool at hand, beer is the perfect complement to everything.
McGillicuddy’s is a fun place just to chill out and relax. The portions are huge and the service is good. The atmosphere is lively though I do find the seating arrangements more open than I would like. Nevertheless this is a comfortable place to bring the family or hang out with friends.
