Monsoon is a mediocre restaurant spoiled by an asbolutely perfect location on the corner of downtown’s Heritage Square. That location gets them far more attention than they would otherwise get based on a mostly uninteresting menu of Asian dishes and tremendously inconsistent sushi. Their rainbow roll, for instance, has varied for me from being big, fresh and tasty, to some anemic-looking thing that, myteriously, seemed to be sitting in a bed of vinegar. If you’re downtown and you really really can’t be bothered to drive five minutes to Hiro’s, Monsoon might get you by, but it’s nothing to savor.
Update June 2009: I took Bestsushi’s suggestion and tried Monsoon again recently. If anything, the food is now consistently mediocre rather than occasionally good. Rainbow roll? Smaller than I recall from past meals, with bland fish, and still over-vinegared. Mostly flavorless miso soup. Skip.

As a graduate from NAU in Flagstaff I make it a point to visit this town as i make my way across he country during my frequent travels. Although, I never though of Flagstaff as a Sushi town I ran accross Monsoons which is in the heart of downtown. I had been on a diet of fast food and needed some quality cuisine. I decided to have a light lunch of spring rolls and sushi. I was quite pleased with the Joy Roll which they happily customized for me with fresh jalepeno I was plesently surprised when my roll arrived made with real crab meat. The atmosphere was great I sat outside and was cool comfortable and entertained with the activity on the streets.
