Fifteen minutes after being seated, we were refused service!
Saturday night – 9:00pm, after shopping, my wife and I decided to go out to dinner. We had been wearing our casual day clothes because did not have time to go home and dress more formally. When we noticed Olio was half empty, we popped inside. After several minutes we were greeted by one of the servers. We noticed that the other patrons were more dressed than we were and asked if we were dressed appropriately (we were clean casual as had been shopping, not working construction).
We had expected the blond female server to say, “No, you are fine.” And then to seat us in the bar area or even outside…remember the place was relatively empty. Her reply was “No, you’re not. Most people dress-up to eat here. But you can sit over there (pointing to a table) and I will bring you some menus in a minute.”
We sat down exactly as directed. Unfortunately, the server’s “minute” never happened.
We waited and waited and waited. Many servers and bus people walked by our table without so much as a glance to us expect the server that sat us…she gave us dirty looks. Not one person approached our table. After exactly 20 minutes (my wife times these things), we got up to walk out.
On our way out, I asked her why she sat us if she didn’t intend to serve us. She just shrugged as if to say, “I don’t know, and I don’t care.”
After leaving Olio, we walked over two blocks to another restaurant that treated us wonderfully and had a superb meal (see my review of Rocky’s Italian Bistro).
Olio lost our business (and anyone else we speak to) forever.
FYI – We went to the website and left an email about the situation. We have received NO RESPONSE.
