Just a heads up for families – Ozeki’s just implemented a kid-free sushi bar policy.
We have been going to Ozeki’s for years. It was our favorite Sushi place in Ventura until today. We went there for dinner for my husband’s birthday knowing we would get to hear Japanese Disco Happy Birthday. We arrived and there was a short wait and space open at the Sushi Bar. We have been eating at the sushi bar with our daughter for years. The sushi chefs even make special orders for her. Tonight we were told that they have a new policy – no kids at the sushi bar.
I understand that some folks might be looking for a child-free environment and this would be a plus for them, but it didn’t really work for us, especially since our daughter has been sitting at the sushi bar since she was 4 or 5.
So we are at home tonight BBQing salmon kabobs for special birthday dinner. And Happy Birthday will be in English!

07/07/2008Thanks for the heads up Shanna. I had not heard of a restaurant imposing a kid-free sushi bar before… altho’ I must say that I can’t remember when I have seen “kids” at a sushi bar. I would think that if a child was mature enough to appreciate sushi then it should not be an issue. BTW what is their age limit for children? If they had an isolated incident, maybe given time they will come to relax or reverse the policy? Better yet, with your long-time patronage, they may make an exception for your daughter? Hope it works out for you.
