This restaurant is one of many small eateries in the International Marketplace in Emeryville. The food seems like a hybrid of Indian food and Persian. I could be horribly off, but that was the impression I got. The workers seemed friendly and offered me a taste of their BBQ chicken. It’s always nice to sample the food first.
I ordered the BBQ chicken and shami plate. Their BBQ chicken isn’t the way Americans do it. It was pretty good and tender, though I wish there was more sauce. The shami, which is like a ground beef kabob thingie, was also solid. I wish it came with yogurt or something to complement it though. The rice was covered with lentil curry, which was a nice touch and enhanced the rice experience much. It was a solid place to eat at, but there are a lot of other restaurants which seem interesting. I personally liked the food, though I can definitely see people not liking it.
Comes with chicken, a ground beef kabob, rice with lentil curry, and a small salad thing. I don’t remember the price, but it was around 10 dollars. Try it if you’ve never had Afghan food before, though I make no promises on whether you will like it or not. A solid dish, though definitely didn’t wow me.
