Go for the great garden patio

The Beach Chalet has the Ocean views, but the Park Chalet downstairs has the great garden patio where you can eat, drink and be merry with your friends, kids, and even your dog. It brings the locals out on both sunny and cooler/foggier days. They make good beer, have a well stocked full bar, and have some decent dishes like the clam and garlic pizza, and the asparagus and smoked salmon salad.

Servers are always courteous, and many I’ve talked with are college students so they create a young vibe there. Park Chalet has specials like Taco Tuesdays, the Outdoor BBQ on weekends and the Recovery Brunch buffet on Sundays. They also have live music on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons which makes it really enjoyable and festive. I get a kick out of watching young kids boogying with their parents.

I’d have to say that we enjoy coming here more for the atmosphere than the food, but it’s still worth a visit to the Outer Sunset.

Dishes I tried:

clam and garlic pizza

Thin, crispy crust pizza loaded with clams, chopped garlic, oregano, and grana padano cheese. They garnish the pizza with four clams in their shells.

Trio of Salads

You get substantial portions of three salads which is good for sharing with someone. The chopped salad has chopped salami, thin slices of hearts of palm, cucumbers, avocado, black olives, blue cheese and a mustard vinaigrette. Really tasty and the dressing isn’t overwhelming. The second salad is Thai Noodle with glass noodles, Asian vegetables and herbs, and Nuoc Cham dressing. This is our least favorite, it has a slightly bitter taste, and my husband detected a sort of “soapy” flavor. The last salad was asparagus and smoked salmon which was my favorite. The asparagus was crisp but not too al dente, and the smoked salmon added a nice saltiness and smokiness.
