When you work at a bar in Ames there isn’t much to do once you close down except meet up at Perkins for dinner/breakfast.

I don’t think I ever visited this particular Perkins or any other Perkins for that matter during a normal hour of the day. But for some reason potato pancakes and bacon are sooo amazing at 3 in the morning and I’ve really never found myself craving Perkins’ food unless it was after a long night working or playing at the bar.

I have to give kudos to the workers of Perkins for the same reason I gave kudos to the JJ guys. They deal with all of the drunken madness of Ames generally with a smile. I guess I have a personal bias too, given that I know a lot of the staff and I know they bust their you know whats.

For awhile this was the last restaurant in Ames you could smoke in, but I’m pretty sure the smoking ban has taken care of that. During the mornings and afternoons it is pretty calm and you will see families and older couples mixed in with college students. There is lots of seating and usually no wait.

If you’ve ever been to a Perkins you’ll know what to expect, but the one in Ames is not half bad compared to some. Cheap and usually fast, it’s a good way to recover or meet with lots of friends who aren’t snobby eaters. I will say stay away from all things seafood or steak like at Perkins and stick to the breakfast stuff…you’ve been warned.
